Marianist Family

The Marianist Family is made up of 4 branches: the Marianist Lay Communities (Lay Marianists), the Daughters of Mary Immaculate (FMI, Marianist Sisters), the Society of Mary (Marianist Brothers, SM), and Alliance Mariale (AM). Each branch shares the same Marianist charism and mission according to their distinct way of life.

The Daughters of Mary Immaculate (Marianist Sisters) are an international religious congregation founded in the aftermath of the French Revolution. Theirfounders, Blessed Adele de Batz de Trenquelleon and Blessed William Joseph Chaminade believed that building small communities of faith was the best way to reinvigorate the Church, educate in faith and transform society. Marianist sisters are women of community, faith, prayer and action.

The Society of Mary (Marianists) is an international Roman Catholic religious congregation of brothers and priests. About 270 members of the Province of the United States serve in ministries from Honolulu to Puerto Rico, and in Eastern Africa, India, Ireland and Mexico.

The Alliance Mariale is a secular institute of consecrated laypeople who live their commitments in the world in alliance with Mary. They do not live in community, but they maintain a variety of fraternal bonds and have periodic meetings together. The institute has members present in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Ivory Coast, Togo, the two Congos and Japan

Marianist Ministries

Through the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative, the three branches of the Marianist Family in North America (the Society of Mary, the Marianist Sisters, and the Marianist Lay Community) unite and multiply the efforts of Marianists to act for social justice. MSJC offers hope, inspiration and opportunity for action through education, outreach and advocacy at the local, national and international levels.

Mission of Mary Cooperative is investing in the inner east side of Dayton by transforming vacant land plots into vegetable gardens and partnering with their neighbors to sustainably develop their local community.

The Marianist Environmental Education Center (MEEC) is an environmental education community in the Catholic tradition. In Mary's hope-filled spirit, they preserve and act in communion with the land and educate other communities in sustainability through ecology-based simple living, social justice and spirituality.

The Encounter Project is a response of the Marianist Family in the United States to Pope Francis’ calls to action to manifest our commitment to the Global Compact on Education and contribute to the action areas of the Laudato Si’ Action Platform.

Marianist Family Councils

In locations where multiple branches of the Marianist Family are active, Family Councils serve the important role of facilitating communication and collaboration between branches in order to sustain the shared mission of the Marianist Family.
