Today’s readings tell us about the Trinity’s gift to us, perhaps it’s greatest gift: WISDOM! Wisdom can be called the love of all things divine.

Proverbs tells us that Wisdom was created before anything visible came into being. Wisdom accompanied God all through creation and played with joyful abandon during the work of creation. Since God did the creating, traces of God can be found in that creation . . . Wisdom is there for us to learn from. Thus, Wisdom teaches us about God and that fills us with the joy of getting to know something about the One who loves us enough to bring us into being so that God can love us. No wonder Wisdom dances with joyful abandon!!

Our Responsorial Psalm, Psalm 8, strengthens that thought of God’s love for us. God trusts us enough to give us the responsibility for the care of this wondrous creation. What a great gift it is to be asked to be so involved with the revelation of our God in creation, to be that close to Wisdom! We are each only “a little less than God”. Such is God’s high regard for us . . . Even before Jesus comes among us to teach us about the Trinity’s love for us. We find Wisdom’s dance of joyous abandon to be contagious!! How thoroughly God loves us and trusts us!!

Paul gives a bit of pause! Boast of your sufferings!?!? Remember that Paul asks us to do this in the light of faith which is how we know of God’s love and trust. We have this additional wondrous gift of faith, freely given to us to enable us to boast even of our sufferings which, in faith, bring us to perseverance during out uncomfortable times and ultimately gift us with the hope that enables us to see where Wisdom is taking us.

And where is Wisdom taking us? John tells us that it is to the ready reception of the message of the Spirit who will remind us of all that Jesus came to teach us. Jesus promises that the Spirit will do exactly that: remind us of all that Jesus revealed which he learned from the Father Himself! Let us open ourselves to receive with joy this gift of certain knowledge of who we are and where we come from and where we are going!
