Ministries of the Marianist Lay Communities

The following are direct or sponsored ministries of MLC-NA
Mission of Mary Cooperative
Website

Mission of Mary Cooperative is investing in the inner east side of Dayton by transforming vacant land plots into vegetable gardens and partnering with our neighbors to sustainably develop our community. Mission of Mary is a sponsored ministry of MLC-NA:

  • Fighting Food Insecurity:  Mission of Mary transforms spaces that have a negative impact on our community into productive and beautiful gardens. We now grow more than 60,000 pounds of food each year and we’re dedicated to putting as much of that harvest as possible on the tables of families in the neighborhood. Through our work, we’re building relationships with our neighbors, building a local food system, and becoming a part of the fabric of the city.
  • Community and Sustainability Programs: Initiatives like our Backyard and Community Garden Programs empower food insecure families to grow health and sustainable food in their yards and share what they're learning through weekly workshops. Collaboration with local schools and community organizations give local students a hands-on way to learn about food systems, pollinators, and sustainability.
  • Native Land Restoration: Working to transform urban spaces into vibrant neighborhoods, Mission of Mary revitalizes vacant spaces with native plants, walking trails, natural playscapes, and fruit orchards. More than just beautiful spaces, these areas create places for the local community to gather, increase investment in the neighborhood, and contribute to a greater sense of safety and wellbeing.

Marianist Family Encounters Project
Website

The Marianist Family Encounters Project is a collaborative response of all branches in the Marianist Family to Pope Francis’ calls to action to manifest our commitment to the Global Compact on Education and contribute to the action areas of the Laudato Si’ Action Platform. This focus will invite us, personally and in our communities and ministries, to bring about meaningful and life-giving encounters at the intersection of the cry of the poor, the cry of the earth, and the gift of our Marianist charism.
